Website development that you can understand!
There is nothing worse than someone trying to sell you something, that you do not understand or you do not think you need...
“ You need a MySQL database driven PHPnuke website with...” HOLD it right there, do they even know what a PHPnuke website is? Hummm... You don’t have to be baffled by techno-jargon to understand what will help your business in the way of a web presence.
How you get your own website is very important, you might not think so but it will be the difference between shedding out a fist full of pound notes for a half assed attempt at a website and a website that is efficient and is getting regular traffic because it has been driven towards your target audience (Customers that will purchase your services) by using search engine optimisation marketing (What! Making your website easy to read, for the Google’s and the Yahoo’s. | See: Search engine optimisation).
The best way I find, for understanding what a business wants for their internet presence, is answered with one simple question, “What do you want, your website to do for your business?” It can only go so many ways.
Ok, I want my website just to tell visitors where we are and show the different ways we can be contacted. GREAT! Something we can now build on, this business does not need to spend hundreds of pounds; all they need is a single page website displaying their contact information like a telephone number and small simple email form (we use an email form, because it protects your email address from spammers). Even the BIG pro guys in London and the USA cannot charge you hundreds of pounds for that.
100 bucks, DONE! And your business now has a professional website that has the potential of bringing you in more customers. Now if your website development team do their job, they will make your single page website into a rich toffee crumble for Google to nibble at, this is done by using clever copy on your page and using title tags and so forth in the correct way. Then they submit your website every 30 days to all the major search engines like, Google, Yahoo, Bing and so on and so on...
This service should be part of the package you purchase from the web design team, because having to pay extra to make the website work is like buying a car that has no engine, it looks good and you can sit in it, but how are you supposed to get anywhere with it... (See: Search engine optimisation)
Spending money on a website means it has to work from day dot(.) and if it isn’t efficient enough, get rid of it and start again and defiantly don’t pay for a website that does not compliment your business.
So here is a rundown of what you want from a website package:
- You don’t need more than you need (even if it is only one page).
- Your website needs to compliment your brand and your business, not hinder it.
- Your website needs to be efficient, and must have a target.
- Your website must be easy to read and navigate, not only for your visitors,
but more importantly for Sir Google the 1st, and it cronies.
- Every company has a target customer and you need to drive your website and business in their direction, this can be done with, pay per click marketing
(See: Understanding per click marketing).
- Your design team should know what you want and know how to initiate and put your plan into action.
- Remember, you want a website that will work for you and with you, and purchasing a half complete project is not worth your hard earned cash.
It will always make you scratch your head in wondering who to have construct you’re website, and it is always the normal practice to go the cheapest way, but if you fully understand what a website can do for your company, You would not have 16 year old Martin down the road build one for you, unless he has a marketing degree as well... As this is one of the only reasons we have websites, to promote, sell and market our products and services, even if you want to run a social networking website like Facebook, where the website is the product, you need someone who understands how it works and how to do it more cost effective and efficiently.
Remember, you don’t need to know what language a website is written in, and you don’t want to know what type of database to use, and website development companies will always try and impress you with their gobble-de-gook so it sounds like they are offering you the world. Make sure you find an honest no bull feeding company like Evolved Media to help you... they are out there!
